Yes, of course I do.
But I think the quote makes more since if you think about the whole quote in its entirety “A liberated woman is one who has sex before marriage and a job after.” What she is saying is that if you can continue to fulfill your sexual and physical desires before marriage, yet still being able to get married or have a job, then you are liberated. So I think adding that end part makes it more meaningful.
But other than that, of course you can be a virgin and be liberated. I think the problem is that society has the biggest stigma attached to the word “Virgin”. I think when you say the word virgin mostly people think about a young girl, withholding from sex for religious reasons, praying comes to my mind as well lol … ugh even the thought of “purity balls come to mind”. But I digress.
I just sometimes wish there was another word for virgin. Have you ever thought that because you are a “virgin” you are liberated, just in another way. Because you are a virgin by choice, and not because your family or god wants you to be a virgin, you are your own woman. One of the definitions of “Liberated” is “to set free”. And since you haven’t been absorbed into the world of “sex sells” and “shake what cha mama gave ya” your body is yours and no one can make you do what you don’t want to do.
Its your vagina. Own it!
And don’t think that because you’re waiting, you’re not liberated.
Really awesome question!
Happy Tumbls!

Ask Me A Question

Hey! I think about this sometimes too. Its pretty tricky.
For me, I try to not get into abortion debates or conversations with friends about abortion who are anti choice. I think it only leaves me frustrated, even though I OBLITERATE the competition with my pro choice fact book. lol.
But I know it happens. I think the first think i would say is to tell that person to “watch how they say things”. 1 in 3 women will have an abortion procedure in their lifetime. So yelling “ABORTION IS MURDER” is so rude and offensive on another level”. They never know if the person they are talking to has had an abortion, their sister, or even mother. So just tell them to watch what they say.
Secondly I would tell them that most of America doesn’t have such strong views on abortion. So maybe tell them that he is in such a small percentage so stop pushing his single views on America.
I would also ask them why they have such a strong view. If they say its “in the bible” I would instantly say that this nation was built on separation of church and state. Tell them this is not a Christian nation and they cant speak for the country when It comes to this.
Oh! And load up with facts. Facts make the world go round, especially in this case. When someone says “well its only teens who get abortion” have a fact ready. “They should of used protection!” have a fact ready.
You wont believe how fast people shut up when you give them a stat and a source lol. But be sure to get your stats from legit places like “Naral”, “Planned Parenthood”, and “Prochoice”. All three amazing websites.

Suuup Feminists
So today my friend and I did clinic defense and a little bit of legal observation. Basically we just watch the crazy anti choice people and video tape if they do anything crazy.
They have this one lady who looks so official, when she drove up we thought she was on out side. So this lady she wears a bright yellow vest and has an official looking clipboard and she stops people when they drive into the clinic. And its nothing bad about the people that are driving in, because the woman looks so official (its because of the vest). But what the woman tells them is garbage. And when someone actually goes in she yells and its so crazy. Stuff like “YOURE A MURDERER!!”
Pretty obnoxious.
But the thing that frustrated me the most were the kids they had. After everything had calmed down some kids where out there with their anti choice parents. And a clinic director asked this little 12 year old boy if he knew what a condom was, and of course he said no.
Then we asked what he does on Saturdays usually, and he said he didn’t watch cartoons or anything. He brother chimed in an yelled “we usually go to CHURCH! :D” So so so sad. :( Then the dad was all happy because he said that he takes them to the lake. Whoopty Doo.
But yeah, today was interesting. It makes me happy when we are the last ones there. I cant wait to go back soon, but I need bigger and better signs. Because these jerks were picking on ours. But its cool… lol
:D Everyone should do clinic defense!

“WASHINGTON – The Senate confirmed Elena Kagan Thursday as the Supreme Court’s 112th justice and the fourth woman in its history, granting a lifetime term to a lawyer and academic with a reputation for brilliance, a dry sense of humor and a liberal bent.
The vote was 63-37 for President Barack Obama’s nominee to succeed retired Justice John Paul Stevens.
Five Republicans joined all but one Democrat and the Senate’s two independents to support Kagan. In a rarely practiced ritual reserved for the most historic votes, senators sat at their desks and stood to cast their votes with “ayes” and “nays.”
Kagan watched the vote with her Justice Department colleagues in the solicitor general’s conference room, the White House said.
Obama, traveling in Chicago, said her confirmation was an affirmation of her character and judicial temperament, and called the addition of another woman to the court a sign of progress for the country.”
From Yahoo News

“Well I am for equal rights, and all, but im not one of those feminist”…Sigh. One of the most annoying things I’ve heard since I’ve discovered feminism and fell in love with it. I really do not understand why most women don’t claim to be a feminist. I think that when you do proclaim feminism, you can make it something that is your own. And that you belong in a community of bad ass feminists. Thats one of the reasons why I’ve enjoyed my journeys so much. Ive never met cooler girls than my feminist friends… But anyway, other than the community, I feel it is very empowering to say “Yes I am a feminist, and this is what I stand for.”
I know that there are so many stereotypes for the feminist (or the enlightened woman as I call her). Hairy legs, Man hating, Atheist and of course lesbian. With all of this being known. I think that if you know the real and true definition of feminism ( the belief in the Economic, social and political equality of all sexes ) then it shouldn’t really matter about the stereotypes. I mean really, there’s terrible stereotypes for racial groups, but you don’t really see people saying “no, i’m not black”. You just take the negatives and in a way turn them into a positive. For me, since I’ve learned so much about feminism I can laugh at the stereotypes and tell people how wrong they are.
Then there is the argument of “Well I dont like labels”. I really know that where ever you go in life, you will be labeled… why not pick one you like thats positive.
For SOME younger women, I guess its most shocking that they aren’t claiming feminism, because I feel we sometimes forget what the strong women did before us. I know that the world is better than the time they lived in, but just because its better doesn’t mean its good . I feel like young girls around my age should want and desire to make feminism their own, because this is the time I think we should use it most. We are walking around on campuses at night, and to me as long as you get that weird feeling of “I’m not safe” there should still be feminism. Whenever you go to a work place and risk getting fired because of your sexual orientation, then there still will be feminism. Because all oppression is connected. I think that once girls finally understand that we can start becoming equal in this world, we can fight back and take ownership of not only our lives and bodies but our feminism as well.

Hey Feminists! So I just got emailed this question and I wanted to know how you felt I answered it.
Question:
“so the topic of which was men hitting women came up…This got me thinking about the way a feminist would think about the topic, as far as equal treatment vs. protection goes. (meaning, if women and men are to be treated equally, then a woman who would hit a man deserves to be treated in kind, as opposed to the idea that women should still receive some form of protection)”
So this is what I responded with:
I dont see why we should be hitting in the first place. But I know things get heated. I wish there wasn’t the need for any violence, but like i said… it happens.
When it does, I think there has to be some common sence on both parties side. If its two “bros” goin at it in a bar your going to think that its an equal and fair fight because most of the time they will have around the same strength and weight. But if its a guy going against a girl it doesn’t seem very fair to me. Even though the only thing physically a guy has on a girl is upper body strength, I would think thats the main thing you use in a fight.
I guess for another example is a huge male body builder (thats in his right mind) isnt going to waste his time going against a 5’3 skinny male. So why is a guy going to waste his time going against an average sized female. There is no point. Most, (MOST lol) of the time the guy will win (I repeated most because this guy pissed me off the other day, and I knew I could take him, but this other guy told me its not worth it… but i digress).
So in my opinion a people shouldn’t fight, BUT it happens. When it does take into consideration common sence. Just because beating up a female would make both parties equal. It wouldn’t make it necessarily fair. And at the end of the day, what guy is going to be proud by saying “yeah I kicked that chicks ass the other night”
